Carbon Fibre Repairs

Expert Carbon Fibre Repairs in Otago, New Zealand

Man it sucks when you break your kit! Not to worry, don’t let it go to waste.

I offer a carbon fibre repair service for various kinds of sporting equipment. I consider this somewhat of a community service at a very fair rate as I hate to see things thrown away, so please get in touch today and talk to me about what it is you’ve broken you silly goose.

Here are some examples:

  • Ice hockey sticks (see more info below)
  • Ice hockey skates/ski boots
  • Kayak paddles
  • Masts/spars

This list isn’t exhaustive; if you have a carbon fibre part that you’d like me to look at, just sing out anytime and I’ll be happy to talk it over with you.

Ice Hockey Sticks

Ice hockey sticks make up a large chunk of the repair work I do. Over the years I’ve developed a method of repair which involves removing and replacing the carbon fibre inside the shaft in the vicinity of the break, leaving the repair barely visible. Unlike other methods you may have seen, my procedure features thorough consolidation of the reinforcement to remove any excess resin and optimise the finished strength. The reinforcement used is deliberately designed to replicate the original layup of the stick, hence it adds virtually no weight (approx. 5-10g), and has negligible affect on the stick flex and feel. The shaft length will be returned to original if a noticeable length of damage needs to be removed.

I can mix and match sticks and blades sometimes, where a little creativity is required (provided the shaft dimensions are close enough), so get in touch if you have some snapped twigs lying around that deserve a second chance.

I don’t tend to fix blades as they’re very sensitive and finicky, but there are exceptions to every rule, and it can be done if you’re really keen on it and the damage isn’t too bad. Generally cracked blades can be recovered, but a complete decapitation is not worthwhile. If the damage is particularly low like at or just above the heel, the repair may need to be external and therefore will be visible.

The going rate of $100 for a standard repair is pretty minimal and certainly stuff all compared with the cost of a complete replacement, so feel free to contact me if you’d like some work done 🙂 I’m open to bulk deals if your team/club has a pile of sticks to fix (combining shipping can save a lot), just get in touch and we’ll talk it over!

Testimonials

“When your whole family plays hockey the cost of replacing sticks is horrendous, so I have had Scott repair multiple sticks over the last few years. I don’t notice any real change in weight or flex in the stick and they have lasted longer than before I broke them. Scott has even done a blade repair for my son and it made his day having his favourite stick repaired and back in action. I give Scott at Veto a good 5 out of 5 stars on every repair he has done for me. Thanks heaps Scott!” – Jamin, Dunedin

“Scott did a repair on my stick back in 2023. It was snapped clean in half about half way down the shaft. I couldn’t feel any difference in the feel of the flex or weight when using it after he fixed it. I’m still using it today in 2025 and I think I’ll wear the blade out first. 10/10” – Matt, Dunedin

“Sticks are expensive and when they break I no longer get frustrated. I catch up with Scott and he fixes them in no time. So far they’re good as new, thanks Scott” – Trevor, Alexandra

“Scott has always been my go to stick repair man, and stick extender man. There have been a few over the years, as the kids grow. Even with his move away from Dunedin, a pop in quick job when passing through Alex is always welcomed. There is pride in his work, making sure repairs stay good” – Dave, Dunedin

“Scott repaired my 102 flex stick. It was badly damaged in a couple of places. Before the repair it was weakened from the cracks around the heel and lower shaft. The repair that was carried out on the stick has made it like new again. He also replaced the wooden butt end with a carbon fibre extension which has improved the feel when using it. Highly recommend” – Ben, Alexandra
